ORC Spring 2026 Week 5 | Sitting Power!
It is just about half way from when I started this newest Challenge! Welcome back to Week 5 of the One Room Challenge. Please look at my previous Blog if you need to catch up- (here)
Things are starting to heat up around here as I bring my dream Great Room to life!! As you can see in my space plan, I sectioned off the main feature wall that includes all the 3 connected zones I am redesigning for this mini-project: Flat screen viewing; Fireplace wall; reading nook.
Sitting Power
And let me tell you it's been so much fun trying all the different chairs I considered to place in my Reading Nook- I absolutely have a chair fetish from the time I was born, Ha!! Some great considerations have been:
Well as you can see these are just a handful I narrowed down from many!! Size is of the utmost importance here but instead of bringing them all home I was able to space plan from the beginning. Keep in mind, I have made room for shelving, lighting and a drink table as well!
What's On The Shelf?!
While I don't own an extensive library of books - I am a firm believer in donating books so that others can share in the pleasure - I've kept a few for reference and I plan to place a few on the shelves for current reading. We also are a household that stays digitally connected, so a comfortable spot for a Tablet is also a requirement.
I chose a couple of sturdy, chunky floating shelves that can hold the weight of a few books plus display some decorative accent pieces as well!
The clean lines speak to me as does the natural warmth of the white oak wood construction. The look will be seamless and hide all the hardware for a minimalist contemporary design. Love, love, love them! I also plan to install one over the flat panel viewing area. This will serve as not only for display, but perhaps storage for electronic paraphanalia.
Light It Up!
An imperitive element of this Reading Nook is the lighting. While the corner space is quite tall and small, I narrowed down a few fixtures that i though would work well and provide ample lighting for reading or just relaxing. Here's a few I've been considering:
Further More...
There even is a tiny space saved for a drink table. Some other options I found included marble tops. What do you think?!
Busy Week Ahead!!
I've been culminating all the elements that will create this divine Reading Nook I've envisioned for quite a while but, it is only one part of this Great Room design. This past week took me to High Point, 'The Furniture Capital of the World', and I was able to procure many pieces that will coordinate well for this project, as well as keeping an eye to the future to complete the whole Great room! It has been really a joy!!
If you have any projects stirring in your pot that you would like me to consider, you can always reach out to me @debsochic
